At the age of 22, Helmut moved to Berlin and studied at the University of Fine Arts, a move that secured his future as an artist. In 1962 he was awarded a scholarship and moved to Paris to train with the leading 20th Century artist Johnny Friedlaender. On returning to Berlin in the mid 1960's Helmut continued his studies and in the 1970's worked as a teacher for the international German-American John F Kennedy School in Berlin. In 1980, at the age of 43, Helmut was appointed as a Professor at the Berlin University of the Arts, and was quickly elected to the position of Head of the Art Department, a position he held until his retirement in 2000. In the last 37 years, Helmut has exhibited 29 times across Germany. His most recent exhibitions have been at the German-Japanese Society, Berlin, the Kreissparkasse Bank, Nordhausen and Galerie Taube, Berlin.
